What is the best feature of the HLS?
The HLS provides a powerful self-locking effect and torque control without requiring a change in use conditions.
How strong is the HLS self-locking effect?
The HLS self-locking effect is as strong as the HLN and HLB thanks to the similar wedge design. The HLS passed the NAS Impact Vibration test.
Can the HLS be reused?
Yes. Just like the HLN and HLB, it can be reused.
Where is the HLS mainly used?
The HLS is used in injection molding machines, die casting molds and many other places.
Product Selection FAQ
Does the threaded portion of the HLS need any special treatment?
No, the threaded portion of the HLS is ready for use.
Is there anything I need to consider before using the HLS in my target application?
The HLS comes in two parts, so check the dimension table and the length of the screw.
Is there a difference in strength compared to general set screws?
The strength is the same as general set screws (locking screws).
Does the HLS have a fine thread type?
Yes. All fine thread type HLSs have a pitch of 1.5.

Installation Procedure FAQ
Are there any special precautions when installing an HLS?
Yes. Make sure to install the concave screw first and then the convex screw.
Are any special tools needed to install the HLS?
No. The HLS can be fastened with any commercially available hex key (Allen wrench). However, refrain from tightening with a damaged tightening tool.
Will lubricant affect the self-locking effect or cause a locking failure?
No. Just like with other Hardlock products, lubricant does not have an adverse effect.
When tightening the convex screw, it is possible that there will be rotation with the concave screw, resulting in an excessive preload?
No. Just tighten the concave screw to the torque required for the target application and then tighten the convex screw with the Hardlock reference torque.
Does seizure or galling occur with the HLS?
Normally no, but be careful not to overtighten. Refer to the reference torque.
Maintenance after Installation FAQ
Is retorquing necessary after installation?
Generally, retorquing after attachment to wear down the initial asperities is an effective way to increase the performance of a threaded fastener.
Are there any special precautions when reusing the HLS?
Before reusing, make sure that the threaded portion of the HLS does not have any deformities. If the threads seem damaged or deformed, refrain from reuse.
How often should the HLS be maintained?
When it is time to replace the target application.
